The Engineer company has been continuously engage on

the Defence Electric Lights since the war began and provides

nightly three officers and 26 rank and file for this very

arduous duty which is carried out in addition to the ordinary

civil employment of the members. The valuable work done by

this company released a number of regular Engineers for service

in Europe.

The following is an extract from a letter dated 1st "ay,

1916 by my predecessor to His Excellency the Governor speaking

of this Corps and the Volunteer Reserve:-

"Had it not been for their patriotism in coming forward it would have been impossible for me to release the British Infantry Regiment and so many Artillery and Engineers.'

I desire to bring the following names to notice:-

LIEUT-COLONEL ARTHUR CHAPMAN V.D. Commendant.

Commanded the Corps with zeal and efficiency during the war. Much extra work has fallen upon him.

SURGEON MAJOR GEORGE DUNGAN RALPH BLACK.

In addition to his Volunteer duties has done daily duty at the Military Hospital since 22nd January, 1915, and given up half his time from a very busy private practice, thereby enablinr a Royal Army Medical Corps officer to be sent on service. Paid two hundred dollars a month from Army funds.

CAPTAIN WILLIAM RUSSELL,

LIEUTENANT ROBERT HALL.

Have been conspicuous and untiring at duty with the elec- tric lights and have been on night duty alternate weeks ever since the war and as they are fully employed at their profession by day have had to rest when they can.

CAPTAIN GEORGE PHILLIP LAERT V.D.

Has been attached to the Army Service Coros since the out- break of the war. His services have contributed to the release of two senior Army Service Corps officers for active service as well as a subaltern of the 2nd Battn.Duke of Cornwall's L.I. formerly attached to the A.S.0.,also a quartermaster Army Service Corps for service in North China.

For the last eighteen months Captain Lammert has been in sole charge of the A.5.0.water and coolie transport and has in addition rendered considerable assistance in the Supply Office. Paid five shillings per diem from Army funds.
